A warm welcome
The Church of the Ascension extends a very warm welcome to you and your family. You are among many English-speaking people of all nationalities and denominations in the greater Nuremberg area who have sought out a place to worship in the English language.

Who we are
The Church of the Ascension, Munich, is a member of the world-wide Anglican Communion and is under the jurisdiction of the Convocation of American Episcopal Churches in Europe. About half of our members are Anglican, but we warmly invite those of other Christian denominations to join us and take part in our worship and parish life.
One of our tasks is to provide English services not only in Munich, but wherever there is a need within Bavaria. So far we offer services in Augsburg (every 1st and 3rd Sunday of each month) and now also in Nuremberg.

“For where two or three are gathered in my name, I am there among them.”
Matthew 18,20

Worship
Our worship, which is traditional, yet warm and personal, is the centre of our parish life. The Book of Common Prayer and the Hymnal of the American Episcopal Church are used for the services.

We are looking forward to see you soon!

Why we are here

The Church of the Ascension serves as a spiritual home for English speaking people of all nationalities and Christian denominations in greater Munich and Bavaria.

Our activities have three purposes:

+ To serve God through beautiful and meaningful worship and to share with the world the Good News of Jesus Christ

+ To provide ministry to our parish members through worship, fellowship, Christian education and pastoral care

+ To care for the needy outside the parish, in Germany and throughout the world, through Outreach projects, either alone or in cooperation with others.

St. James the Less adopts Mission Statement at AGM

On June 8, 2008 the congregation of the Church of St. James the Less, Nuremberg, met after the service for their Annual General Meeting (AGM). Among the view on the past year and the discussion of the future of the mission the most important decision was the adoption of a Mission Statement to set a frame for our work here in Nuremberg. The Mission Statement reads as follows:

The Church of St. James the Less is an English-speaking community of faith, striving to show love and compassion to all. We offer our ministry to people of every race, nation and denomination, who seek to follow Christ and proclaim the Good News of Jesus Christ, our Lord, by word and deed.

Bishop Pierre has since approved the Mission Statement. In a letter from June 17, 2008 addressed to the vicar the Bishop writes: ˜I am pleased to accept this gracious statement of the will of the people of St. James the Less. Please convey my good wishes and blessings to them to follow Jesus.”

WANTED: Ecumenically interested people for the new delegation 2009-2013

At the end of the year the delegation period of the Council of Christian Churches in Bavaria (AcKiB) is coming to and end. By mid September we now have to find people willing to engage themselves in ecumenism. The AcKiB has two bodies. The general body, the “Delegiertenkonferenz” meets once a year (usually January or February) for a three day weekend meeting. The second body is the Executive Committee which meets three times a year in addition to the conference, usually on a Friday or Saturday. It will be an ecumenically specifically interesting period as in 2010 we will have the second Ecumenical Kirchentag in Munich. Any member of the Church of the Ascension, St. Boniface or St. James the Less can be nominated. There will be two delegates needed and up to two alternates. The language is German. If you are interested or would like to have more information, please contact The Rev. Dorothee Hahn.
